In my daily commute to work, it takes 20 minutes tops from leaving the house to unlocking the front door at work. Sometimes if I get all green lights (only a few times in 3yrs) I make it in 13 minutes. With all red lights and freeway traffic jams forcing everyone to take 1300 west then I am late. I start to gripe at other drivers, red lights and I speed if it looks like I won't make it or if I leave late.
Yesterday with the 4 inches of snow and the traffic reporting accidents all over the valley, I left early. It was a smooth ride and I didn't even notice what color the lights were. As I turned onto 4700 South about 1/2 mile from work, the west half of the sky was an icy cold blue. The east half of the sky was full of rain clouds breaking up and the sun was trying to find a spot to shine through. For just five minutes or less the whole valley became a beautiful sepia tone. WOW! I loved it!
Then driving down my little street to Data Chem a person was walking in a bright blue coat. He sure stood out just like those cool pictures, but I was living in it. There were 99 accidents in the SL Valley due to the storm, but not me. What a difference being early makes, because I wouldn't have noticed the beautiful surroundings at all if I had been late and grumpy.
